Ronald Alexander Stott, 87, a native of Island Pond and more recently a 22 year resident of Northfield, died Wednesday February 9 2000 at the Mayo Assisted Living Home in Northfield. Ronald was born in Island Pond, Nov. 23, 1912, the son of Alexander and Alice Norton Stott. He graduated from Brighton High School and on June 28, 1934, married Leona Mildred Currier also of Island Pond. Ronald and Mildred recently celebrated 65 years of marriage. He entered the Army during World War II, serving in France and Germany where he remained as part of the Army of Occupation until July 1946. He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Ron worked for the Canadian National Railroad out of Island Pond for ten years and then owned the Brighton Gas Company. In the early 1960s he moved to White River Junction where he became a partner in another fuel company. After retirement in 1977, Ronald and Mildred moved to Northfield to be closer to their family. He enjoyed hunting, skiing, and woodworking. He is survived by his wife, a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and William Pope, of Northfield; three granddaughters, Beth Melinda Lemnah, Stacey Stott Whaley, Kelsey Pope Bussiere, all of Northfield; one grandson, David Stott Pope of Beverly, Mass; and one sister, Helen Berry of Portland, Maine; seven great-grandchildren; and three nephews. He is predeceased by two sisters, Hazel Amey, of Norway, Maine, and Bernice Way of Portland, Maine. A memorial service will be held at the Kingston Funeral Home in Northfield at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000. Contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice, 600 Granger Road, Barre, Vt. 05641. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kingston Funeral Home.
