Elvin Clair Burkett, 81, Brookville, died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2006, at Brookville Hospital. He was born April 8, 1924, in Coolspring, a son of the late Charles Carlton and Emma Marcella Himes Burkett. Aug. 8, 1970, in Brookville, he married Emma C. "Peg" Sarvey Burr, who survives. Mr. Burkett worked as a driller for Stahlman Coal Company in Corsica and C&K Coal Company in Clarion. He enjoyed watching sports. In addition to his wife, surviving relatives include two sons, Albert Burkett and wife Ana of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Gary Burkett and wife Jane of Brookville; a daughter, Francine Burkett of Brookville; two step-daughters, Thelma Gromley and husband Harold of Glen Campbell and Carol Hoffman and husband Gary of Brookville; a step-son, Harry Burr and wife Mary Ann of Reynoldsville; three brothers, Kenneth Burkett of Findley Lake, N.Y., Albert Burkett of Coolspring, and Nelson Burkett of Brookville; five sisters, Agnes Burns, Isobel Hetrick and Marion McKendree, all of Brookville, Elva Crosswaite of Reynoldsville, and Alverna Burns of Summerville; 17 grand-children; and 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the McKinney Funeral Home, Brookville. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006, at the funeral home with Pastor David Selleck of the Alpha Assembly of God Church, Clarion. Interment will be in the Bethel-Geer Cemetery, Pinecreek Township. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
