Florence Simmer, 94, a resident of Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls, formerly of Rothsay, died Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, at the home. She was born on Aug. 12, 1908, in rural Rothsay, one of 10 children born to Solomon and Mary (Fors) Danielson. She attended school at District 28 in Wilkin County through eighth-grade and completed two years of high school in Fergus Falls. She continued her education at Bethel Academy in St. Paul, graduating in 1929. Following her graduation, she worked as a housekeeper in several homes. In 1939, she married Roquell Simmer in rural Rothsay. They lived on a farm near Rothsay until 1974, when they moved into Rothsay. She moved to Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls on Sept. 9, 1999. Mrs. Simmer was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Fergus Falls and was a former member of the Rothsay Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and belonged to the ladies aide. She was a devoted wife and mother. She always loved flowers and had many beautiful flower gardens along with a large vegetable garden. Preceding her in death were her parents; four sisters; and four brothers.
Visitation: Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church
Memorial Service: 2 p.m. Wednesday, at First Church of the Nazarene, Fergus Falls
