He married Catherine Priscilla Shields 11 Nov 1865 in Douglas, Lawrence, Kansas. Five children were born to this family in Kansas and Missouri: George R, Sarah Lavina "Viney", Stanley T, Lucy Jane and Merietta "Etta". Four children were born in Philomath, Benton county, Oregon: Selah Robert, Patricia Christine, Luther Shields, and Ira B.
Catherine's mortuary marker can be seen next to the tree behind Francis' stone. She does not have a tombstone marker.
Truman, as he was referred by, was a farmer owning land in Benton county of which he left to his sons and daughters as mentioned in his will.

WOODRUFF- At his home near Philomath, January 7, 1894, of Bright's disease, Francis T. Woodruff, aged 62 years.
Deceased was a native of Connecticut. He resided in Kansas for some time and came to Oregon about fifteen years ago. He took part in the late war and was severely wounded, from the effects of which he was an invalid for many years previous to his death. He received a pension of about $30 per month.
Mr. Woodruff was a member of the U.B. Church and his character is highly spoken of by his neighbors and acquaintances. He leaves a wife and eight children, three girls and five boys, the elder ones of whom are well able to care for the family."
