Warner was the son of James Pratt and Eunice Moore. He married Elizabeth Jane Shelton on March 16, 1840, at Scotland County, Missouri. Warner was an attorney. He served as Knox County Assessor in 1845, County Clerk in 1858.

FIRST COUNTY COURTS.

The first term of the Knox County Court convened at Edina, April 7, 1845. All three of the justices, Melker Baker, Edward Milligan and Virgil Pratt, were present, and Baker was made presiding justice. John H. Fresh was appointed elizor or acting sheriff; Jessie John, county clerk; Warner Pratt, assessor, and Peter Early, treasurer.

The Knox County Argus was started at Edina in 1859 by Warner Pratt. William S. Bennington was the editor. Later it was sold to Frank M. Daulton and Charles Newman, who changed the name to Herald and made it a seccession paper.
