Samuel Griffin was son of John Griffin from South Wales. Samuel and 6 brothers came to Maryland in the late 1700's from Wales, but were separated. Samuel settled for a time in Pennsylvania before crossing the mountains and settling permanently in Brushy Fork, an area near Clarksburg, WV. Samuel was the husband of Sarah Scarf Griffin, who he married in 1778 in Harford, Maryland.
He was the father of Joshua Hardesty Griffin, Nancy Ann Griffin, John Griffin, Henry S. Griffin, Susannah Griffin, Samuel Griffin, Jr., Edward Griffin, William Scarf Griffin, and James Scarf Griffin, Benjamin S. Griffin, and George Goss Griffin.
