Sister Leocadia was born Ella Mae Hilber. She was the daughter of Elizabeth Gairinger and Benjamin Hilber. Her siblings include:

She served as Librarian for Mt. St. Benedict Academy and Corbett College. She taught school- 1st through 12th grades for over 40 years. She was active in the Tri-State and functioning of the Catholic Library Association as well as local and state library events.
