Pansy Hodges Gray, 84, a lifelong resident of Martinsville passed from this life on Wednesday, June 23, 2010.

She was born on April 15, 1926 to Charles H. and Florence (Elliott) Hodges.

Pansy graduated from Martinsville High School with the class of 1944 where she worked during the 1960's, 70's and early 80's as a bookkeeper in the cafeteria. She was a long time member of the First Christian Church in Martinsville, an avid quilter, gardener and loved walking, especially with her dear golden retriever, Lucy.

Pansy was the widow of H. Jackson Gray, whom she married on April 14, 1946. He preceded her in death on March 17, 1992 following 46 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Violet Hodges Asher.

She is survived by her son, Charles Jackson "Jack" Gray of Los Angeles, CA; grandson, Jake Gray of Berkeley, CA; granddaughter, Coley Gray of Berkeley, CA; brother, Charles Wm. "Bud" Hodges of Indianapolis; and nephew, Jim (Pam) Asher of Martinsville. Several other nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews survive, as well as, her companion of 18 years, William Champlin of Martinsville.

Pansy spent many happy winters in Safety Harbor, Florida where she will be missed by her many friends there. She lived on her beloved homestead farm (1819) in Baker Township her entire life and will be buried there on Sunday in the Union Cemetery.

Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center in Martinsville is in charge of arrangements. Rev. Bruce McDaniel will conduct a graveside service at 3:00 PM Sunday June 27th in Union Cemetery in Baker Township.
