SMARELLI, John Giovanni, 79, of Springfield, Ohio, died at 12:35 p.m. Thursday July 28, 2005 in Community Hospital. He was born July 1, 1926 in Richmond, Indiana to Genaro and Angelina (Caiolfa) Smarelli. He retired as the orchestra director for the Springfield City Schools after 25 years of service. He was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church, received his Bachelors and Masters of Music from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, a member of the Ohio Music Education Association, Musician Union Local 160 and was a World War II Army Air Corps Veteran. Survivors include two sons, Mark (Imelda) Smarelli of Springfield and David (Brenda) Smarelli, Cincinnati; three grandchildren, Laura, Marissa and Julia Smarelli; a brother, Remo Smarelli, Richmond, Indiana and a number of nieces and nephews. His wife, Margaret A., preceded him in death in 2001. Friends may call in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Teresa Church with burial in St. Bernard Cemetery. Memorial Donations may be made to the John Smarelli Youth Symphony Scholarship Fund.
