Mary, beloved wife of James Lyons, of Yellowstone, Wis., died Aug. 27, 1888. She was born in the parish of Ballymoney, Antrim county, Ireland, October 1823. After about five years intimate association, she was married to Mr. Lyons in October 1844, having six sons and five daughters for their family, one son dying in Ireland and another in Wisconsin. In 1853 they emigrated to this country, and have resided at the homestead ever since. Her sickness, of seven days duration, began in what has been prevalent in this neighborhood, and proved fatal in apoplexy. She had been a member of the Presbyterian church thirty-five years, and the Holy Scriptures were her daily study and delight. As a friend and neighbor, she was most highly esteemed by all who knew her. The funeral, on Tuesday, was conducted by Rev. G.A. Joslin in Fayette church, and the large train of sympathizing friends who followed to the grave showed her memory was precious.

The children of John and Sarah McKillip, who settled in Section 36 of Fayette Township in 1851 were:

Mary (1823-1888) married to James Lyons (1818-1904) in Ireland in 1884, James and Mary McKillip Lyons emigrated from Ireland in 1852 with their two little girls Fanny (who later married William J. Darrow) and Margaret (who later married George Frank). They settled in Fayette Township near Mary's parents, the John McKillips. "On a small portion of their land a rural schoolhouse was built and was called "The Lyons Factory." As the small rural schools were absorbed in the village schools and the rural cheese factories gave way to large milk companies, these two Lyons landmarks are no longer standing. From Phyllis Frank Callies Genealogy of John and Sarah McKillip. Their other children born in Fayette Township were Sarah and Mary, who never married; Martha, Mrs. Thomas Hoffman of South Dakota; James and Thomas, twins who never married and left Yellowstone at an early age; Robert who died in infancy; Daniel a mortician at Wauzeka, Wisconsin; and David, a cement contractor at Lena, Illinois.
