The US World War 1 vet marker here would seem to indicate that this Chris Christensen served in the war when the United States joined that war in 1918.
He would be serving at age 51 fighting those who may have onetime shared his country (the Schlesvig-Holstein area was long disputed between Denmark and Germany). It is highly unlikely that THIS Chris served with American forces during that war.
What is more likely, is that this marker should appear at the grave of Chris Christensen son of Mads Christensen who definitely served and whose grave continues without the honor now for a number of years. Did someone from the local VFW make a mistake? Or was it cemetery personnel?
