Born about 1873, possibly in Lomza or Sejny (Sainy), near the current border of Lithuania in what was then Russian-occupied Poland.

Sarah's husband, Rabbi Joseph Shapiro (2 May 1872/Sejny - 28 Nov 1933/Los Angeles), left his pregnant wife and children in Sejny and came to America, landing in June of 1904. It was fitting that his last child to be born in the Old Country--his youngest daughter, Fanny--came arrived on the 4th of July, 1904.

Joseph had come to make a home for his family, but it took him some time before he could send for them. Celia made the trip accompanied only by her children, Samuel, Louis, Isadore, Jacob and the youngest, Fanny.

They lived first in New Bedord, then in Boston and their last child, Saul [Selig], was born in America.

Celia accompanied several of her grown children who moved west to new opportunities in the Land of Sunshine. Saul would start a family & become a real estate developer and businessman; Fanny, married in Boston, came before her husband (John D. Myers) followed and also became a home builder; and Jacob "Jack" went along on the adventure.

The other children remained near their father in Boston, and there were many visits between east and west coasts.

Her son Saul named his first daughter 'Celia' after her, so her name lives on in a new generation.
