THANKS TO Ed Wood for the following information:
In your description, you state that Ruth and George Latham had a daughter named Jean Pfeil, but this is only partially true. Jean Elaine Pfeil (b. 25 Dec 1920) was actually the daughter of Gregory M Gonder and Ruth Elizabeth Pfeil. Gregory was Ruth’s first husband, and she did not marry George Leslie Latham until 29 Sep 1938. Even though Jean Elaine was born in 1920, her mother did not marry Gregory Gonder until 31 Dec 1923. She was never known as Jean Elaine Gonder, and kept the Pfeil surname until she married Raymond Paul Goodyear in 1971. Both her marriage license and social security application list Gregory M Gonder as her father.
My speculation as to why Ruth and Gregory were married 3 years after Jean Elaine’s birth: At the time of Jean Elaine’s birth, Gregory Gonder was only 17 years old and Ruth was 20. She was an inmate in a reform school for 6 months until she was 18. Perhaps they were not stable enough for marriage, and waited for a few years. The marriage didn’t last long, and by 1930, it appears that Gregory had another child (Jaquline) by his next wife Adelia.
