Died in Kendall, March 2nd, 1901, Mrs. Joanna McDermott, aged 66 years of cerebal apoplexy. She was born in the County Carlow, Ireland, and came to New York City with her father and two brothers, James and John Murphy when quite young. Two sisters and three brothers came to New York some years previous. She lived with her father and brothers until she was married to Bernard McDermott at the age of 18 years, by Rev. Father Driscoll, in St. Thomas Catholic church, West 16th street, New York City, in the year 1853 and came to Wisconsin the same years, where she has resided ever since.
Being the youngest of a family of eleven children she was the only surviving one and has no relatives in the west outside of her own family. All her remaining relatives are in the east where she had visited a few years ago with her nephews, C.N. Bulger and Dr. W.J. Bulger and niece, Mrs. M. Hennesy of Oswego, N.Y.: Judge P.F. Bulger of Utica, N.Y., also her nephew A.J. Murphy and niece Mrs. B. Smith of Columbus, Ohio.
She lived a most exemplary life of Christian resignation in all her trials. Being of the true faith she submitted always to the Divine will of Almighty God who has been pleased to take her to Himself. Although she will be missed by all her neighbors none can miss her more than those whose pleasure it was to call her mother and who now mourn her loss.
Seven children survive her: James, Bessie and Mrs. G.M. Brown were with her when she died. The others are Mrs. A.J. Buss, John, Michael and Louis McDermott. She was buried form the Catholic church in Kendall by the side of her husband and two sons, Rev. Father Norton officiating. May she rest in peace.
