Beloved son of John Durand and Fannie (Shapiro) Myers, brother to Joseph Myers and Barbara Myers Gilbert. Husband to Mary Louise Davis and June E. Toth, father to Barbara, Jaimie and David Myers.

Hank grew up being a caretaker for his mother who had chronic bronchitis, and for his younger siblings, Barbara and Joseph. Although he had dreams of a career in entertainment, tending to the sick would become his calling in life.

He was with the 66th Infantry Division--the famed 'Black Panthers' in WW II. He originally boarded the SS Leopoldville, but was ordered off the ship with a group of other soldiers and onto the SS Cheshire before they left the dock to cross the English Channel from Southampton. A few hours later, the Leopoldville was torpedoed by a German U-Boat and nearly 1,000 soldiers were lost.

Once in France, Hank was badly wounded while rescuing another soldier from mortar fire on evening patrol and was awarded a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. Told he'd never have use of his hands again, he applied himself to model-making, forcing himself to regain his fine motor skills, and eventually made a complete recovery.

He entered USC on his G.I. scholarship, and then attended medical school in Chicago. Afterwards, he returned to Southern California where he practiced general medicine and anesthesiology.

While in Chicago, he'd met his first wife, Mary L. Davis, on a blind date. They had 26 years and three children together before they divorced.

Several years passed before Hank met June E. Toth who'd just moved out west from Connecticut. Their blind date led to 28 years of marriage!

Hank was a fine doctor, and loved to entertain his patients with songs and jokes. He loved to fish, enjoyed football and golf, traveling and puttering in his garden.

He never met a stranger, and was loved by many.

MYERS-Henry Myers, M.D., passed away peacefully on June 4, 2004, after fighting lung cancer for more than two years. Dr. Myers was born in Boston on January 26, 1926, and moved to California at age 8. Graduating from Alhambra High School in 1943, he attended Whittier College until meeting the age requirements for enlistment in the U.S. Army. A survivor of the Leopoldville disaster on December 24, 1944, he was with the Black Panther division in the invasion of France. Badly wounded while rescuing a comrade from mortar fire on April 19, 1945, en route to the Battle of the Bulge, he received the bronze star and purple heart. After recovering from his injuries, he attended the University of Southern California, graduating in 1948. He was a loyal brother of Zeta Beta Tau. He then attended medical school in Chicago, Illinois, and following his internship at L.A. County General Hospital in 1953, moved to West Covina. He practiced as an anesthesiologist and family practitioner in West Covina, Covina and surrounding cities in the East San Gabriel Valley from 1954 until retirement in 1992. An avid deep-sea fisherman and golfer, he was a member of South Hills Country Club. He loved travel, music, dancing, and his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, June Myers; his children, Barbara Jo Haines of Waddy, Kentucky, Jaimes Jon Myers and daughter in law Lourdes of Santa Ana, and David Bruce Myers, of La Quinta; his sister Barbara Gilbert and brother in law Hank, of Delray Beach, Florida, brother Joseph Myers and sister in law Yvonne, of Riverside, and brother in law William Toth and wife Fay, of San Dimas. He is also survived by loving nieces and nephews, and a host of lifelong friends and associates. Private services have been held. The family requests no flowers; but that everyone wishing to honor him make a contribution in his memory to the charitable organization of their choice.
