DEATH Claims Levi Pennington At Ripe Old Age
Levi Pennington an aged and respected resident of Greenup County, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Sarah Griffith, of Chinnville, Saturday. The remains were laid to rest in the Old steam cemetery and the last sad rites were attended by a large concourst of sorrowing friends and relatives. The deceased was 81 years of age and had been ill for only a short while.
He leaves eight children to mourn his loss, Mrs. Mary Marshall, of Kaymoore, V. Va,. Mrs. Cora Snoddy, of Worthington, and Mrs. Sarah Griffith, Mase, Riley and Albert Pennington, of Stonington, James of Normal, and John, of Paintsville. He was loved by all who knew him. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Kidd and Rev. Crippins.

NANCY SPARKS: THE SPARKS QUARTERLY, March 1994, Whole No. 165, p. 4274 : " Nancy Sparks, daughter of James Sparks, was born about 1794, probably in North Carolina, although her birthplace was given as Virginia on the 1860 census of Johnson County, Kentucky. She married Joshua Pennington in 1815 in Lee County, Virginia. He was born about 1790 in Virginia. It seems quite probable that Joshua and Nancy followed her father to eastern Kentucky where they settled in that part of Floyd County which became a part of Johnson County in 1843. It was there that Nancy died on March 15, 1878. According to her death record, she was 87 years old.
