JOHN W. MARRISON SR.

ASHTABULA - - John William Marrison Sr., age 92, of Woodman Avenue, died Sunday, January 21, 2007, at the Hospice Unit of Ashtabula County Medical Center.

He was born April 1, 1914, in Ashtabula, the son of John and Bessie (Conway) Marrison, and had been a lifelong Ashtabula resident.

Prior to his retirement (although he never really retired), he owned and operated Marrison Motors since 1939. He started out with McKinney Iron Works in his younger years, and then worked as a truck driver for M.J. Pinney, helping to build the Pinney Docks.

He served over 38 years with the Ashtabula County Sheriff's Department Auxiliary, still holding his commission as sergeant, and was an honorary member of the Ashtabula County S.W.A.T. Team. A life member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Mr. Marrison attended many dances there with his wife.

An animal lover, he enjoyed cutting hay on his son's farm, driving his golf cart around the Ponderosa to check on everyone and everything, growing his vegetable garden, canning tomatoes, and making pickled corn and his homemade spaghetti sauce.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Helen M. (Ciepiel), whom he married New Year's Day 1937; three sons, John "Jack" (Edythe) Marrison Jr. and James (MaryLou) Marrison, both of Ashtabula, and Walter (Judy) Marrison of Austinburg; one daughter, Marilyn Wiley of Ashtabula; eight grandchildren, Elizabeth, Tom, Jackie, Bill, Rob, Steve, John, and Chad; ten great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Harry Marrison Sr., Russell Marrison, and James Ross; one sister, Mattie Allison; one granddaughter, Julie Ann Marrison; and his parents.

A Service will be held 12 noon, Wednesday, January 24, 2007, at the ZABACK-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 West Prospect Road, Ashtabula. Reverend Kenneth Roberts, Pastor of Pentecostal Church of God, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Calling Hours will be Wednesday at the Funeral Home from 10 to 12 noon, with members of the local law-enforcement community serving as honor guard.
