Dr. George Ridley Sr. Funeral Services To Be Held Tuesday

Funeral services for Dr. George W. Ridley Sr., who was a resident of Grand Junction for 30 years prior to moving to El Dorado, Kans., will be held here Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Martin's mortuary. Dr. Ridley, 75, died in an El Dorado hospital Friday of complications from a heart ailment he had had for years.

Mrs. M.J. (Pearl) Porter of Grand Junction and Mrs. Florence Rawlings, Long Beach, Calif., had just spent a week with their father in Kansas, Mrs. Porter returning here at 2 a.m. Saturday. He became worse and was taken to the hospital after her departure.

Dr. Ridley was born Jan. 29, 1875, at Clearwater, Minn., graduating from the Clearwater high school. He then graduated from the Northern Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago. He was married to Minnie McMaster in 1901 at Sandwich, Ill.

Four children were born to this union, Mrs. Porter, Mrs. Rawlings, Dr. Wendell Ridley, now of Alhambra, Calif., and Dr. Howard Ridley, who died two years ago following an accident and was buried here.

Dr. and Mrs. Ridley resided in Delta where they operated a jewelry store prior to moving here in 1906, where Dr. Ridley practiced optometry for 30 years. He was in partnership a part of the time with Dr. James Bush. Mrs. Ridley died here in 1923, and he retired in 1936.

He was married to Mrs. Laura Abbott, and the couple moved to California for several years before going to El Dorado to live.

Dr. Ridley was a member in high standing in the Odd Fellows lodge, and was an active member of the First Methodist church here. The family had a wide circle of friends locally.

Survivors in addition to the two daughters and son mentioned above are the widow, Mrs. Laura Ridley; two step children, Dr. Galen Abbott and Mrs. Eunice Goode of El Dorado; four brothers, Dr. Will Ridley, Houston, Tex., and Vernon, Lester Ridley and Bert Ridley.
