A grandmother who fell into a swimming pool with
her 22-month-old grandson on Monday has died, a
Vanderbilt University Medical Center spokeswoman
confirmed Thursday.

Jeannine Pereira, 63, had been listed in
critical condition since the accident in the
family's pool on Woodmont Boulevard.

Police believe she may have suffered a medical
emergency, which caused her to fall into the
water while carrying her grandson, Logan Pereira.
The boy died Tuesday.

Pereira lived with her son and daughter-in-law.
At the time of the accident on Monday, everyone
was out of the house and Pereira was baby-sitting
her grandchildren, said Metro Police spokeswoman
Kristin Mumford.

A neighbor noticed Pereira and Logan motionless
in the pool just after 3 p.m. He pulled them
from the water and called police.

Pereira's 3-year-old granddaughter told officers
her grandmother was carrying her brother down the
steps to the pool when they fell in.
