WELL KNOWN BERNE WOMAN DIES SUNDAY

Mrs. C. C. Neuenschwander, 78, Dies at Home on West Water Street

FUNERAL IS WEDNESDAY A. M.

Mrs. Marianna Neuenschwander, aged 78, wife of Christian C. Neuenschwander of West Water Street, died at her home Sunday forenoon at 10:58 o'clock. Death was caused by kidney disease and complications, and infirmities of old age. Mrs. Neuenschwander had been bedfast for the past three weeks and confined to her home for the last six weeks. She failed gradually the last two years.

If Mrs. Neuenschwander would have lived until Wednesday, Jan. 29, she and her husband would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary as they were married Jan. 29, 1876.

Mrs. Neuenschwander was a kind and loving wife and mother and her death robs her husband of an affectionate helpmate for more than half a century. She was held in high esteem by all who knew her.

The deceased was born on a farm in French Township, October 18, 1857, bringing her age to 78 years, 3 months and 8 days. She was the daughter of Christian and Verena Habegger Stauffer. Growing to womanhood on the farm, she married Christian Neuenschwander and they lived on the farm until Jan. 14, 1915, when they moved to Berne. Mrs. Neuenschwander was a faithful member of the local Mennonite church.

Surviving are the husband and the following children: Albert, Littlefield, Texas; Otto and Edwin Neuenschwander of Berne; Noah, northwest of Berne; Mrs. Wilbur (Della) Lehman, Mrs. Herman (Lydia) Lehman and Omer C. Neuenschwander, of Berne. Thirty-three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren survive, also two sisters, Mrs. C. A. Neuenschwander and Mrs. John Lehman, and one half-brother, Peter Burkhalter, all of Berne.

The parents, two daughters, Mrs. Jacob F. Moser and Mrs. Herbert Sprunger, two sons, Alvin and Eli, three grandchildren and the following sisters preceded: Mrs. Jacob Neuenschwander, Mrs. Joel Fry and Mrs. Emanuel Sprunger. Three half-brothers and one half-sister also preceded: Daniel Stauffer, Peter Stauffer, David Stauffer and Mrs. Peter Steiner.

The funeral will be held at 9:15 o'clock at the home Wednesday forenoon and at 9:30 o'clock at the local Mennonite church, Rev. Suckau officiating, assisted by Rev. Calvin Schmid of the Cross Reformed Church. Burial will be in the MRE Cemetery.
