She was the granddaughter of Simon Alexander McCanna, the founder of the pioneer community of McCanna, ND and the Centennial Farm that largely defined her life; granddaughter of Nan and Henry King of Lakota, ND. Margery spent much of her childhood at this farm with her grandmother, Katherine O'Gorman McCanna, widow of Simon, and with her uncle, Charles D. McCanna. Upon inheriting her farm in 1973, she made her permanent home there, maintaining residences in Atlanta, Georgia, the home of her husband, Lathrop King Jennison and in Santiago, Colima, Mexico, where she customarily spent her winters.
