Funeral services for Kenneth D. Fendall, age 76, who died at the Community Hospital on October 1, 1974 were held on October 4 at the West Chehalem Friends Church with interment at Noble Cemetery. Attrell's Newberg Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Kenneth Fendall was born the son of pioneer parents, Elbridge G. and Anna Christenson Fendall on the family farm in West Chehalem near Newberg on July 2, 1898. He attended Ewing Young School, Newberg High School and was a graduate from Oregon State College. On November 7, 1924 he was married to Rose C. Hesgard in Portland.
He taught vocational agriculture in the Newberg and Gresham High Schools. Changing his vocation, he moved to Newberg and the family farm where he farmed and worked for the Yamhill County Agriculture Agency, then became a rural mail carrier for 25 1/2 years until he retired. They made their home on the farm until 1968 when they moved into Friendsview Manor. The West Chehalem Friends Church was a major part of his life's interest as he was choir director for over 40 years, taught Sunday School classes, served as Sunday School Superintendent and on various church boards. He supported the church in every way that he could. His consistent Christian life was an inspiration to the youth of the church as well as others who knew him.
Surviving are his wife, Rose: seven children, David and Gary of Newberg, Phil and Charlotte Painter both of Portland, Lois Jensen of Arlington, Washington; Roger F. of Corvallis, and Lon of Washington D.C.; sister Lois Rising of Seattle, brother, DeVere of Salem; 20 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the West Chehalem Friends Church in his name.
