Mrs. Vera Vogel Dies; Services on Saturday
Mrs. Vera Vogel, wife of Clarence J. Vogel, died Thursday afternoon in a local hospital. She had been critically ill the last two weeks. The family home is on Rt. 3, St. Paul Road.
Services will be held at 9:30 Saturday morning in Blessed Sacrament Church. A requiem mass will be offered. Internment will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
The rosary will be recited at 8 Friday evening in the chapel of the Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Visitations may be made after 4 Friday.
Mrs. Vogel was born Feb. 21, 1901 at Wray, Colo. to Mr. and Mrs. Lee Cottingham. During her childhood, the family lived in various western Nebraska communities before coming to Grand Island in 1908. Mrs. Vogel completed her schooling in this city.
She and George Meyer were married Spt. 3, 1922 at Aurora. They made their home in Grand Island. Three children were born to them. Mr. Meyer died in 1949.
On May 21, 1950, Mr. and Mrs. Vogel were married in Grand Island. They had made their home here.
Mrs. Vogel was a member of the parish at Blessed Sacrament Church. She was affiliated with the Union Pacific Old Timers Club and the Auxiliary to the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railroad Employees.
She is survived by her husband; three children, Don Meyer of Loup City, Mrs. Doris Hughes, West Covina, Calif., and Mrs. William Lawrey, Grand Island; stepdaughter Miss Mary Vogel, Grand Island; brother, Roy L. Cottingham, Lincoln; sister, Mrs. Levi Smaha, Grand Island and seven grandchildren. Her parents preceded her in death.
