Born about 1804. Son of David Jones (Welsh) and Sophia Prudence Mueller (Swiss). Brother of Rudolph Jones, Maria Jones Blakely, David Jones, Elizabeth Jones Shoppard, and Hannah Jones Thayer. He married Susan "Sally" Oliver Sept 30, 1831 in Crawford Co, Pennsylvania. Emigrated to Knox Co, Illinois about 1850 with his immediate family where they joined many other friends and relatives from Crawford Co. Father of Oliver Jones, Orin Jones, Alfred, Rachel E. Jones Smith, Richard Jones, Hannah Jones Housh, Priscilla Jones Briggs, Campbell Jones, and Prudence Jones Grabill. All of his sons served in the Civil War. He was murdered about 1859 after being mistaken as another man during a railroad strike.
