Franklin Kasper, a lifelong resident of Wilson County, Texas, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2005, in San Antonio at the age of 77 years, 4 months, and 12 days.

He was born to Frank Kasper and Clara Elizabeth Schneider on July 18, 1928, in Dewees. He lived in the Loma Vista Community, and was a rancher.

Franklin married Rosalie Friesenhahn on Nov. 29, 1950, in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, including serving 14 months in Germany. Franklin was a lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Past Council Knights of Columbus.

Franklin was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, the Wilson County Farm Bureau, the National Farmer's Union, the Independent Cattleman's Association, the National Federation of Independent Business, the Cattle Raiser's Association, and the Grand Lodge of the Sons of Hermann.

He served as director of the board of the Farm Bureau in Wilson County. He also served on the board of the County A.S.C.S. Committee, the Wilson County Stock Show Committee, the Three Oaks Water Supply Corp. board, and the Farmers Home Administration.

Franklin was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother-in-law, Elwood Hill.

Franklin is survived by his wife of 55 years, Rosalie Kasper of Poth; a son, Jerry Kasper and wife Karin of Poth; a daughter, Elaine Wiatrek and husband Jim of Poth; grandchildren Garrett Wiatrek and wife Courtney of Poth, Dustin Wiatrek and wife Julie of Casper, Wyo., Shawna Wiatrek of Poth, twins Slade and Skylar Kasper, and Larkin Kasper; a great-grandson, Wyatt Wiatrek; a brother, E. J. Kasper and wife Juanita; and sisters Dorothy Hill and Ora Lee Stevens.

Visitation began at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 4, and a rosary was recited at 6 p.m. in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Poth. Visitation continued from 9 a.m. on Monday in the church.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Monday in the church, officiated by Father Grzegorz Szewczyk.

Entombment followed in the Blessed Sacrament Mausoleum.

Serving as pallbearers were grandsons Garrett Wiatrek, Dustin Wiatrek, and Slade Kasper. Also serving as pallbearers were Michael Hill, Lelon Mueller, and Cory Mueller.

Honorary pallbearers were Johnny Pawelek, Roy Wheeler, George Light, Paul Casares, Albert Faktor, Mingo Campos, Chuck Pawelek, and Rick Dockery.
