A Pioneer Resident Gone.

"Mr. John Fauth, who died at his home in this city Friday morning, was an old and highly respected citizen. For 55 years he had been a resident of this city, having come here in 1854.

"He was a native of Derrenbach, Bavaria, where he was born April 11, 1833, and where he spent his boyhood days. In the years 1852 he embarked for America, landing in New York. He located in Buffalo, where he served an apprenticeship of two years in a carriage and wagon makers shop. Seeing great possibilities in the future for this section he came to Texas in 1854 and cast his lot in the then small town of Gonzales. He worked at his trade with a Mr. Bryan until 1858, when he entered into partnership with Mr. James Ramsay, father of the late J. W. Ramsay. The partnership was continued for a number of years, when Mr. Ramsay withdrew from the firm, the business being conducted up to Mr. Fauth death a few days ago, by the latter.

"In the year 1858 Mr. Fauth and Miss Margaret Kuhula were married, and to them were born five children. Of this number but one-Mrs. Victoria Bongard, of McLennan County-survives. In addition to the aged wife and the daughter above mentioned, there are ten living grandchildren.

"Mr. Fauth was a member of the German Methodist Church and was a man esteemed by one and all. He was a man of exemplary character, and in his daily life was a consistent Christian. He was methodical in business affairs, and had a complete record of every cent of money expended or contributed by him for any purpose since his youth, and his day book, which he had in his possession even after his last illness came upon him, has entered upon its pages the visits of the family physician up to and including April 24th, when he became too ill to give the matter further attention.

"He served several months has a solider in the service of the Confederacy, but his company did not get to participate in any of the battles.

"A son-in-law. Mr. George W. Jenks, and his son, Mr. Darnell Jenks, of Stephenville, are present to attend the funeral, which takes place Sunday morning at 9 o'clock. Following are the pallbearers:
