Gonzales Mourns Passing Away of Pioneer Resident.
Mrs. John Fauth-Passes To Final Reward- Funeral Thursday Afternoon.

"Gently closing her eyes on earthly scenes to behold the splendor of eternal morning dawn in that "Home Over There," the spirit of Mrs. Margaret Fauth, one of Gonzales pioneer residents, entered into rest Tuesday, November 25, 1924, at 3:30 o'clock at the family residence in this city.

"The end came after an illness of some ten days of bronchial pneumonia, and loved ones who watched at her bedside for the past few days realized that it would be but a little while until she slipped away to enter into further, richer life prepared for those who love and serve the Lord.

"Mrs. Fauth was 90 years, 7 months and 22 days of age, and in her passing Gonzales loses one of her few Pioneer residents who have resided here for as long as seventy years and over.

"Surviving her are one daughter, Mrs. M. L. Bongard, of Waco, formerly Miss Victoria Fauth, ten grandchildren and ten Great-grandchildren, all residing elsewhere, a nephew, F. J. Lang of this city, who came to Gonzales as a youth and made his home with her until his marriage, and between whom there was a very tender tie. A daughter-in-law, Mrs. Jessie Fauth, of Davis, Okla., who has been with her for months and spent much time here in the past and was deeply devoted to her in her declining years, also survives desides other relatives.

"Mrs. Fauth was the widow of John Fauth, one of Gonzales pioneer business men, who came here and established himself in business as early as 1850, and who passed away in 1909.

"To them were born five children, Christiana, who became Mrs. Jenks of Stephenville, Eugene Adolph, Victoria and Olga.

"Mrs. Fauth was formerly Miss Margaret Kuhnle and was born April 3, 1834, in Beihingen, Wurtenburg, Germany, and was the last of six children. She came to this country at the age of 18 years, settling at Buffalo, New York. It was as a bride she came to Gonzales in 1852, Mr. Fauth having a home built and in readiness for her on the same property on which the old Fauth home now stands, their first home, however, facing west on Main Square.

"Shortly after coming to Gonzales to reside she united with the First Methodist church of this city, being one of its first members and through out the seventy-two years of her residence here she was one of its most devoted and active members, her interest continuing unabated in the Masters work long after she was unable to be an active worker.

"Ever taking a great interest in the church and community life of Gonzales, hers has been a life of exceptional service to her community in every phase of activity that could appeal to a noble Christian woman. Her life shines with beautiful deeds for she never failed to go where there was illness and suffering and sorrow, and ministered many times to the sick and dying, leaving her home and loved ones to nurse those ill with dangerously contagious disease. A woman of wonderful courage, high Christian ideals and indomitable energy, her death closes a most remarkable life of service, equaled by but few. She enjoyed a wonderful memory throughout her life and her knowledge of world events was wide, even up to her closing days, as she was a great reader.

"A close Bible student, she knew the greater part of the Bible by heart, and had not only her own children, but a number of young people, that resided in her home from time to time to read and study the Word.

"Mrs. Fauth was a constant of the Inquirer from the day it was founded, in June, 1853, and in her death the paper has lost one of its best friends.

"While we sympathize with those nearest and dearest in their loss, they have the sweet consolation of a long and godly life to glorify the coming years.

"Her funeral has been set for Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock, when services will be conducted at the Fauth residence, after which interment will be made in the City Cemetery beside the remains of other loved ones. Her pastor, Rev. J. F. Webb, and Rev. O. C. Raeke of the German Methodist church, will have charge of the funeral services. The honorary pall bearers will include the old friends of the family."
