Russell Ivie, age 67, of Upalco, passed away peacefully at his home July 18, 2010 after a valiant fight with cancer. He was loved and will be greatly missed.

He was born March 26, 1943 to Raleigh Russell and Dora May Mott Ivie, and grew up on the Strawberry River. He attended school in Duchesne. He was a proud veteran of the US Navy, serving in the West Pacific from 1961-1964. He spent most of his life in the oilfield working in every position, making many great friends.

He married Joyce Elaine Harris, later divorced. He later married Sylvia Fausett Abplanalp in 1983. They were blessed with many years of companionship. They went hunting, fishing, camping, and traveling. He had such a great relationship with each person that had the pleasure to know him. He loved spending time at the family cabin up Lake Canyon, teaching us to shoot...but only after the work was done. We were all entertained with his wealth of great stories (some fact, some fiction, we will never know.)

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia, Upalco, son, Scott (Shelly), Cedarview; daughter Heide Lea (Scott) Taylor, Roosevelt; stepchildren, Billie Jean (Floyd) Mitchell, Upalco, Connie (Gary) Dye, Neola, John Floyd Abplanalp, West Valley City, Tonya Abplanalp (Donnie Reed), Birmingham, Ala., and Terry Shry, Taylorsville; 3 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, 16 step grandchildren and 23 step great grandchildren.

He is also survived by brothers, Keith (Sharolette) and Kent (Julie); sisters, Patsy Lupold, Suzzann (Stan) Young, Dian (Dean) Burton and Tena (Lee) Gines; and half brothers, Lee and Rex Mezenen.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 22, at 11 a.m. at the Altamont LDS Stake Center. There will be a viewing Wednesday evening from 6-7 p.m. at the Hullinger Mortuary in Roosevelt and Thursday at the church from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the service.

Burial at the Strawberry Cemetery with military honors by the Duchesne American Legion.
