George Lawrence Hartman, 81, of 1557 Biglerville Road, Gettysburg, died Tuesday, April 25, at home.

Born in Washington, D.C., he was a son of the late Joseph and Olive Price Hartman.

He was a member of the Gettysburg Church of the Brethren, was a deacon and church board member and had taught Sunday school for over 30 years.

He farmed in the upper Adams County area for 40 years.

He is survived by his wife, Mary R. Ogburn Hartman, to whom he was married for 61 years; five children, Larry Hartman of Littlestown, Mary Ann Hartman and Joan E. Wisecup, both of Gettysburg, Joseph E. Hartman of Biglerville, and John A. Hartman of Hagerstown; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; a brother, Jay Hartman of Fort Washington, Md.; and two sisters, Ruth Cochrane of Rockville, Md., and Anna Rogers of Miami, Fla.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 30, at the Gettysburg Church of the Brethren, 1710 Biglerville Road, Gettysburg, with the Rev. Joel F. Nogle officiating. Interment will be in Upper Marsh Creek Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church Sunday from 12:30 p.m. to, 2 p.m. Funeral arrangements are by the Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Brethren.
