Jim Dunnum, 72, long time resident of Owatonna, died July 22, 2010, at his home with his family by his side.

A Mass of Christian Burial is set for Monday, July 26, at 2 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Owatonna with the Rev. John Sauer presiding. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may greet the family on Sunday, July 25, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Brick – Meger Funeral Home, 1603 Austin Road. A parish Rosary will be recited at 3:45 p.m. at the funeral home on Sunday. The visitation will continue one hour before the funeral liturgy at the church on Monday.

James (Jim) Norman Dunnum was born Feb. 9, 1938, in Cashton, Wis., to Lawrence and Evelyn (Jernander) Dunnum. He graduated from Cashton High School in 1955 and attended Wisconsin Institute of Technology in Platteville, Wis. and the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.

Jim was united in marriage to Joyce Schmitz on May 9, 1959. He worked as an engineer for Trane Company of LaCrosse, Wis., McQuay Company of Minneapolis, Wenger Corporation of Owatonna, Clay Equipment of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Viracon of Owatonna. In 1983 Jim started Owatonna Engineering Inc. in Medford, retiring in 2003.

Jim was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Owatonna, the church choir and the church decorating committee. He was active in the 20 Pistol and Rifle Club of Owatonna. He was a marathon runner, furniture and car restorer, a Green Bay Packers fan, an avid hunter of deer and elk, an inveterate prankster, an able handyman, and a devoted family man. Jim was especially proud of his Norwegian heritage.

Jim is survived by his wife of 51 years, Joyce; daughters Jerilyn (Greg) Kjellberg of New Ulm, Jana (Paul) Rushlow of Racine, Wis., Jennifer (Lou) Garriga of Osceola, Wis., Jodi (John) Merrimack of Knapp, Wis.; grandchildren Tye, Paige, James, John, Meia, Carter, Eliza, Shae; mother Evelyn Dunnum of LaCrosse, Wis.; sisters Elaine (Dick) Bronson of Manitowoc, Wis., Kathy (Dick) Mannstedt of Onalaska, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Marion Newburg, and his father, Lawrence.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Decorating Fund and Owatonna Hospice Patient Care Fund.
