Rev. Robert Dye, 93, of Berne, Indiana passed away at 4:10 a.m. Sunday, December 13, 2009 at the Swiss Village Retirement Community in Berne, Indiana.
Robert was born on October 14, 1916 in Urbana, Ohio the son of Firman and Nellie (Taylor) Dye, both deceased. He was married to Jane Ann Judy Dye and she passed away in October of 1987. He then married Judy Parr on December 30, 1989 in Linn Grove, Indiana and she survives.
Robert was a member of the First Missionary Church in Berne, Indiana. He was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran where he worked in the food service in India. He was a former buyer for Johnson-Shelton Home Store in Dayton, Ohio. Robert later graduated from Fort Wayne Bible College in 1956. He pastored in Sterling, Kansas, Springfield, Bluffton, and Lima, Ohio, Rolland, Michigan, and Auburn, Indiana. Robert later was the Pastoral Care Minister at the First Missionary Church in Berne where he retired.
Robert is survived by his wife, Judy Dye of Berne, Indiana; A son, Robert F. Dye of New Haven, Indiana; a son, David S. Dye of Zephyrhills, Florida; a daughter, Sandra (James) Johnson of Evansville, Indiana; a step-son, Brent Bixler of Versailles, Kentucky; and a step-daughter, Melinda (Lack) Taing of Berne, Indiana. Other survivors include ten grandchildren, fifteen step-grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and seven step-great-grandchildren.
Robert was preceded in death by his first wife, Jane Ann Dye; half-sisters, Bessie Covington, Agnes Little, and Mary Kelly; and a half-brother, Harry Little.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at the First Missionary Church in Berne with the Rev. Ray Bachman and Chaplain Chris Thurow officiating. Interment will be in the M.R.E. Cemetery of rural Berne.
Family and friends will be received from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at the Swiss Village Chapel and one hour prior to the funeral service at the First Missionary Church on Wednesday.
Preferred memorials are to the Swiss Village Samaritan Fund or Family Hospice of Northeast Indiana.
