EPHRAIM BAUMGARTNER

Ephraim Baumgartner, a retired farmer, who the past few weeks has been living with his son Hiram northwest of town, passed to his reward Sunday night, on New Year's day.

He has been ailing for some time being very nervous and greatly depressed, having never recovered from the bereavement caused by his wife's death, which occurred about a year and a half ago. Septo-meningitis was the cause of his death.

Mr. Baumgartner was born in French Tp., Adams Co., Ind., July 25, 1846, this bringing his age to 64 years, 5 months and 6 days. He united with the Mennonite church at the age of eighteen and was married to Miss Magdalena Gerber, of Wayne Co., Ohio, February 1, 1872. They lived on his father's farm in French township, later he bought a farm near Linn Grove and in 1885 he sold it and bought another one southeast of Berne where they lived until 1904 when they moved to Berne. When his wife died about a year and a half ago the family was broken up and he has since been living with his children. He leaves, to mourn their loss, three sons, Noah, Hiram and Manas and three daughters, Mrs. Gideon Sprunger, of Hesperia, Mich., Mrs. Oscar Steiner of Lima, Ohio and Miss Lillie Baumgartner of Berne, besides ten grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 1 o'clock at the house and 2 o'clock at the Mennonite church.
