Death of Abraham Syphard. Caernarvon: Abraham Syphard, aged about 78 years, a respected citizen of West Nantmeal, Chester county, died at his residence, about midway between Conestoga and Isabella stations, on the W. & N. railroad, of dropsy. Deceased was a son of John Syphard, who died many years ago. He was twice married and the father of 20 children. His first wife Eliza Mock, daughter of Jacob and Alice Mock, of Union township, Berks Co. His second wife was Ruth Ann Meridith, daughter of Isaac Meridith, long since deceased, of West Nantmeal.

Notwithstanding the inclement weather the funeral of Abraham Syphard was largely attended. Brief services only were held at the house, after which the procession proceeded to St. Mary's P. E. church, the place of interment, where the services were concluded. Rev. Geo. Doyle, pastor of U. B. church, Springfield, officiated. Twelve of deceased's children with their families attended the funeral of their aged parent. Among the children present was his son William, who has resided in Carthage, Hancock county, Illinois, for 12 years. Many persons returned to the house for dinner. The bearers were: Abner James, S. P. Handwork, B. Unangst, William Shingle, Nicholas Yocom and Albert Trego. Undertaker Finger, of Springfield, had charge.
