Services for Eugene Owens,75, Athens are scheduled for 2:00 P M Sunday at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Chapel with Rev. Erick Graham officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Park.

Mr. Owens died July 28, 2010 in Athens.

He was born February 25, 1935 in Athens to the late Richard and Blanch White Owen and was a lifelong resident of Athens.

Following a tour of duty with the United States Air Force, Gene began a 33 year career in the oil field industry as a driller and tool pusher. When the oil industry declined in the late 1980's he became an independent trucking contractor with a tenure of 18 years. The last five years of his working life was with Securitas.

He was preceded in death by a son Douglas Wayne Murphree and sisters Bobbie Irvin, Helen Mills and Barbara Ann Thomas.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years Bernice Owens, Athens, sons Jeffrey Lynn Owens, John Murphree and wife Sandie, all of Athens, David Owens, Corsicana, sisters Martha Ferrell, Dallas, Doris Brown, Lafayette, Louisiana, 11 grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Troy Calhoun, Larry Parent, David Loden, Eddie Irvin, Buddy Phillips, Wayne Irvin.

Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Irvin, Larry Irvin, Stoney Henson.
