Tilford Thompson, age 72, died at the General Hospital in Minneapolis on August 27, 1970. He had been hospitalized there and at Browerville for five weeks. Death come as the result of a respiratory ailment.
He was born to Thomas and Carrie Thompson in Burleene township on August 9, 1898, and was raised in that community where most of his life was spent. He was engaged in farming and then worked for 15 years as a machinist at Northern Pump in Minneapolis. He retired from there a few years ago and returned to the farm where he enjoyed gardening and his workshop.
Tilford Thompson was united in marriage to Helen Olson on October 25, 1921, at Eagle Bend. They were parents of seven children: Donavan of Browerville, Leona (Mrs. Glen Holum) of Brainerd, Opal (Mrs. Harry Burnyeat) of Minneapolis, Ronald of Minneapolis, Norma (Mrs. Roger Farrell) of Minot, North Dakota, and Lynden and Georgine, both of Minneapolis, all of whom survive as does his wife Helen. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Philip P Holum, Randy and Shannon Burnyeat, Sheila and Dian Farrell and Mrs. Linda Berry; one great grandson, Jason Andrew Berry; and two sisters.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services for Mr. Thompson were conducted on Sunday, August 30 from the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Eagle Bend, with Pastor Michael Demming officiating. Two songs, "You'll Never Say Goodbye in Heaven" and "Some Sweet Day", were sung by Pastor and Mrs. Demming. Burial was made in Hope Lutheran Cemetery with George Erickson, Lloyd Johnson, Wayne Cheney, Lloyd Engebretson, John Ecklund and Wm. Hetland serving as pallbearers.
