Obituary of Ernest Thompson
Esmond Resident Mourned by Host of Friends in That Community

Ernest Thompson was born at Eagle Bend, Minn., the son of Thomas and Carrie Thompson, on March 6, 1899.
He came to North Dakota in the spring of 1918 and had made his home in the Esmond commutity since that date. He was married to Fern Camp of Esmond, Dec 17, 1923. To this union four children were born. Mrs. Melvin Jensrud, (Dorothy) of Esmond; Luella of Minneapolis; Elaine and Ernest Jr. at home. He is also mourned by his aged mother, who lives at Austin, Minn., also a son-in-law, Melvin Jensrud, of Camp Farragut, Idaho; four sisters, a brother Tilford who lives in Minneapolis. His father, one sister and one brother preceded him in death.
Mr. Thompson was janitor of the Esmond school for a number of years and in this post won the friendship of the youngsters and older folks as well. He later built and operated an oil station. He was always genial and accomodating. Whether appreciated or not he always served with a smile. In the last days of his illness, in spite of pain and suffering, his ready reply was, "Oh, I'm just fine."
Mr. Thompson was a member of the school board for several years and also served as town marshall.
He died at his home in Esmond on the evening of Decemver 26, 1943 at the age of 43 years, nine months and 20 days.
Funeral services were hold at the Trinity Lutheran church on December 30th with Rev. H.M. Aanestad officiating. Rev. R. Aanestad of McClusky also paid a brief tribute to Mr. Thompson.
Mrs. Carlyle Austinson, Mrs. Charles Lunde and Clarence Jensen sang the favorite hymns of the family during the service, as a trio in "Abide with Me", a duet by Mrs. Lunde and Mrs. Austinson, "Will There Be Any Stars in My Crown"; Mrs. Lunde rendered "Still, Still With Thee" and Mrs. Jensen sang "One Sweetly Solemn Thought". Mrs. D. G. Aanestad was organist.
Pall-bearers were Harold Jensen, Clarence Howe, Irving Holnren, Kenneth Bengson, Leo Eberle and Melvin Tangen. Interment was made in the Esmond cemetery.
