Timothy Hubbard was born in Niagara County, New York, in 1829, and was trained as a wheelwright. Timothy was living in California when he enlisted during the Civil War as a private at Marysville on August 17, 1861. He was mustered into Company I, 1st California Infantry, at the Presidio of San Francisco on August 26. His enlistment papers indicate he was 5' 9" with a dark complexion, and his next-of-kin was his brother, Benjamin B. Hubbard, then residing at Waterloo, Dane County, Wisconsin. Private Hubbard was mustered out at Fort Union, New Mexico, August 31, 1864 (Orton, 374). After the war he married Jane Totten and settled at Webberville, Ingham County, Michigan. Timothy filed for a Civil War veteran's pension in Michigan April 27, 1891, and received application No. 1,017,666 and certificate No. 711,258. He refiled for his veteran's pension March 7, 1907.
