Son of Wilson & (former Indian captive) Mary "Polly" (Purdy)Crail. They lived on Licking River near Falmouth, KY. Brother of unknown, Lilburn, Nicolas, Milton, Sarah, Samuel, James and possibly another sister. In 1829 he crossed Ohio Rv. to Cincinatti,OH and lived with his brother Lilburn at his father Wilson's boarding house. At this time he was a cooper making barrels. In 1831 he was "a packer" and is thought to have married his wife Hammiel during these years.(The records were burned in Ham. Co., courthouse fires in Cincinatti.)In 1842 he was "a watchman" and a volunteer fireman in Cincinatti where his brothers Milton and Nicholas also resided. His children Joseph, Sarah and Laura and brother Nicholas and parents had passed away by 1851. He took his family via wagon train from Mo. to Calif. arriving in Tuolomne Co.,CA in 1852.

They eventually settled in Lancha Plana, Amador Co., CA. by 1855 where James Henry Crail was born.(Edward died out west?). He was a farmer,gold prospector and hydralic miner. 1880 Census reports him to be "One-handed". His grandson Edward Johnson (son of Henrietta (Johnson),(Zimmerman) was also living with them in 1880.Death Register #1: Greenberry Crail, d. Dec. 25, 1894, aged 90 yrs l mo. 23 days. Married. White. Native of Kentucky. Occu: miner. Remarks: Lancha Plana.
