Edward Ridgely was a graduate of Harvard University in 1881 and served in various capacities for the Ridgely National Bank, primarily as cashier. He was also secretary and treasurer of Springfield Gas Light company, controlled by the Ridgely interests. He was a member of the Illinois National Guard and active in politics. From 1903 to 1906 he was Chief Bank Examiner of New York, Jersey City, and Brooklyn. From 1913 to 1917 he was a state bank examiner of Illinois under Governor Dunne.
All of his sons, Harry Clark, Charles II, and Edward Jr., served in the military during World War I. He was survived by his sons, his wife, his daughter Mrs. S. Wallace Murkland, his sister Mrs. Mary (William A.) Vincent, his mother Mrs. Jane Maria Ridgely, one brother Franklin Ridgely.
