Hans was born in Germany and immigrated to the United States along with his father and mother, arriving in New York on the ship "Dresden" on March 5, 1928. At that time Hans was "Johann Bergmayr"; when he changed his name to "Hans" is unknown.
Hans' gravesite in the Margraten Cemetery is adopted by Bart van der Sterren who visits the site regularly.

Pfc. Hans Bergmayr
Memorial services for Pfc. Hans Bergmayr, 20, son of Mr.& Mrs. John Bergmayr, 2224 N. 7th st, who was killed in action in Holland on February 26, will be held at l0 a.m. Saturday, March 24 at St. Francis church, 4th and Brown streets.
Pvt. Bergmayr was born in Germany near Munich in 1924 and had come to Milwaukee at the age of 3. He became an American citizen and graduated from Boys Technical school in 1943, going into the army in July of the same year.
In addition to his parents, Pvt. Bergmayr is survived by a sister Josephine.
