Son of Major Alfred Edward and Jessie Esther Bailey (nee Imrie) Harris. Husband of Leila Margaret (nee O'Mahoney) Harris of Christian Street, Clayfield, Brisbane, Queensland. He applied for a Commission in the Australian Military Forces on 4 December 1914. He was killed in action, aged 44 years.

Included in the inscription on the cross on the grave in the foreground are the words 'In memory of RSM ?Clarke ... Pts ... Sewell ...killed in action May 1915'. 238 Private Edward Sewell, 9th Battalion, was killed 1915-05-20. Note the shell nose cones formed in a cross on the ground in front of the grave and another on the mound of the grave itself. Note also the telephone pole in the background.
