DIED FROM WOUNDS. Mrs Pickering (Balclutha) has recieved word that her eldest son Oliver died of wounds on July 26. Private Pickering was in business as a blacksmith in Balclutha for a few years prior to enlisting with the 30th reinforcements. He was a member of Court Molyneux, A.O.F., and was held in popular esteem in Balclutha. (Clutha Leader, 2 August 1918).
FOR THE EMPIRES CAUSE. DEATHS. PICKERING - On July 26, died from wounds "Somewhere in France, " 56591 - Private Oliver Pickering (28th Reinforcements), dearly beloved fifth eldest son of Mrs James Pickering, Balclutha; aged 32 years. Deeply regretted. (Otago Witness, 14 August 1918).
