The 306th was part of the US 77th Division.The 77th Division replaced the National Guard's 42nd Infantry "Rainbow" Division near Baccarat, France in June 1918. On Aug. 4th, the division moved to the Vesle sector in the neighborhood of Fismes, on Aug. 11th, entering the line. With French troops on both flanks and forming a part of the 6th French Army, the division commenced the attack of the German positions north of the River Vesle on Aug. 18th, crossing the Vesle on Sept. 5thNewspapers of the day listed Pvt Adelson as missing in action 27 Aug 1918. The 77th was along the Vesle River just west of Fismes at Bazoches.
