Sunday morning John Winter of St. Anna died at the Chilton hospital, where he had been a patient for three weeks. He was 72. Born February 8, 1887 in the town of New Holstein, he was the son of the late William and Mary Nett Winter. He attended school in St. Anna, and was married to the former Minnie Krebsbach of St. Anna, at the St. Ann Catholic Church September 12, 1911. The couple farmed on the Winter homestead near St. Anna, moved into the village when they retired.
Mr. Winter was a member of the Holy Name society, Catholic Knights of Wisconsin and was one of the organizers of the St. Anna Fire department.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Arthur Rieth of rural Elkhart Lake, and Mrs. Mathew Riesterer of near Kiel; two sons, Walter of New Holstein and Joseph of Fond du Lac; 17 grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Frances Michels of Sheboygan.
Services were held at Meiselwitz Funeral Home, the Rev. Lawrence Loerke celebrated the requiem mass at St. Ann's Catholic Church.
