JACOB T. SMITH, MAGNOLIA, DIES

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Boose Funeral Home for Jacob T. Smith of the rural Magnolia, IL, area, who had passed away at 3:15 the previous Tuesday afternoon, February 13, 1968, at the Washburn, IL Nursing Home. He had been a patient there since last December 16, following a brief hospitalization at St. Margaret's Hospital in Spring Valley, Il.

The Rev. P. Daniel Fant, pastor of the First Lutheran Church of Varna, Il, officiated. Organ prelude and postlude and one organ interlude number, "The Old Rugged Cross", were played by Mrs. Charles Johnston. Serving as pallbearers were Claude Bjork, Don Lundgren, Gerald Swanson, Marion Austin, Carl Carlson, and Wallace Carlson.

Friends in large numbers called at the Boose Funeral Home Thursday evening. Interment was in the First Lutheran Cemetery # 1 at Varna, IL.

Mr. Smith, usually known as "T" to a wide circle of friends in the Big Sandy area between Magnolia and Varna, was a near - lifelong resident of that community, coming to it with his parents at a very young age. He was a son of the late William F. and Maria E. (Hill) Smith, and was born at their home in Perry County, Pennsylvania, on December 22, 1880.

He was married on February 18, 1903, in Henry, IL to the former Alice Virginia Veden, who preceded him in death in December, 1961. One son, Floyd, was born to them, with whom Mr. Smith had made his home before his recent hospitalization. He farmed most of his active life, moving to Varna after his retirement a number of years ago.

Other survivors in addition to the one son, are a grandson, Wallace, also of Magnolia, and three great-grandsons; four sisters, Mrs. Bertha Zobrist and Mrs. Minnie Ross, both of Peoria, IL, and Doroty Sylvester and Mrs. Darlene Doran, both of Melrose Park, IL; one brother, Elmer Smith of Rochelle, IL; and a step-mother, now Mrs. Clark Briner of Magnolia. His parents, his wife, two sisters, and one brother preceded him in death.
