John moved to Clyde, Cloud County, Kansas when he was a young man. There he worked for a number of years as a brick mason.
In 1910, John, Angeline and their children moved to Garden City, Finney County, Kansas. There he continued his work as a brick mason. They lived in Garden City the remainder of their lives.
There were 10 children born to the marriage of John and Angeline; Phoebe Roy, Lillian Gestenslager, Edward Roy, Bessie Plotner, Bertha Cobern-Hamilton, Blanche Day, Ada Sumpter, Everett Roy, Chester L. Roy and Helen Mae Roy.
