Henry Blanchard, 82, 3511 Russell avenue N., died of carbon monoxide poisoning during a fire at his home Tuesday, Hennepin county coroner's office said.
Firemen found Blanchard's body lying by a front window of the five-room bungalow several feet from where he apparently had been sitting in a rocking chair.
Fireman believe Blanchard collapsed while trying to escape. The chair fell into the basement through a hole burned in the floor.
The fire was discovered about noon. Firemen said it was apparently started by a cigar. Blanchard was alone in the house.
Damage was estimated at $7000."
