Mr. Nichols' death occurred Friday at the Cookeville General Hospital following a long illness.
A native of Wilson County, he was the son of Rev Moses "Jasper" and Robena Katherine Ross Nichols. He had called Cookeville home since 1921. He owned and operated a shoe shop here until his retirement in 1946. He was a member of the Methodist church since childhood.
Mr. Nichols was first married to Mary Caroline Carr on 12/16/1899, (d/o Charles Burton Carr & Martha Emeline Holliday) whose death occurred in 1923, to this union were born 4 daughters. Later he married to Miss Mae Walker on the 1st of January 1933 (She was b. 4 December 1895 – d. 28 April 1976) They had a son and daughter.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mae Walker Nichols; 4 daughters, Mrs. Dewey (Lena) Holman, Crossville, Mrs. Rastus (Robena Catherine) Ray, Monterey, Mrs. Howard (Martha Elizabeth) Whitson, Cookeville, Mrs. George (Ruth) Tulloss, Cleveland, TN. An only son, Alex Nichols, Azle, TX; 2 sisters, Mrs. Charles L. Koellern and Miss Lillie Nichols of Nashville; a brother, Sidney H Nichols
, Lebanon; 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother Freddie Nichols
