Leila was my husband's Great-Grandmother.

She was the first of three children born to August KEHL (1856) and Maria Caroline POWELL (1860-1911).

She was married to John M. HOPPERDIETZEL on July 5th, 1904 in Athens, WI.

Together they had eight children: Mary Barbara Hopperdietzel Fletcher, Henry August (wife Mae Barbara Bruening), Ellen Adeline Hopperdietzel Doering Schaefer, Grace Alice Hopperdietzel Smith, Walter George (wife Alice V. Kramer), Lucille Ann Hoperdietzel Baneck, Robert (died at 6 months old), and Dorothy Mae Hopperdietzel Ewan.

Leila was a homemaker.

Mrs. Leila Hopperdietzel, 86, Athens Route 3, died Friday at 7:20 p.m. in a Medford hospital.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Athens. The Rev. David Seip will officiate and burial will be in the Athens Cemetery. Friends may call at the Ray Schaefer residence in Athens Sunday after 10 a.m. and Monday after 9 a.m. at the church. Heike West Chapel in Wausau is in charge of arrangements.

The former Leila Kehl was born May 29, 1887, in Oconmowoc, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. August Kehl. On July 5, 1904, in Athens, she was married to John Hopperdietzel, who died Aug. 1, 1947. She was a member of the Trinity Church Demonstration Club and the Athens Senior Citizens.

Survivors include two sons, Henry, Athens Route 1, and Walter, Abbotsford; three daughters, Mrs. Ray Schaefer, Athens, Mrs. Ervin Smith, 1220 Kickbusch St., Wausau, and Mrs. Marvin Ewan, Athens; a brother, Grant, Altkins, Minn.; 16 grandchildren and 33 great-grand-children.
