Chief Machinist Mate Tasker was both a WW1 and WWII U. S. Navy veteran. He retired from the Navy on September 1, 1940 after 27 years of service and was then recalled to active duty on March 30, 1942. He served sea duty on the USS Winchester (SP-156), USS Constellation, USS Utah (sunk at Pearl Harbor), USS Sirius, USS Columbia, USS Babbitt, USS Twigs, USS Elliot, USS Brazos, USS McFarland, USS Dahlgren and the USS Humphreys. He saw shore duty at the MTBS Training Center in Melville, Rhode Island; the Massachusetts Maritime Academy in Hyannis, Mass; and the Navy Torpedo Staion in Newport, RI. He was awarded the WW1 Victory medal, the WWII Victory medal, the American Theater Campaign medal, the Navy Good Conduct medal with 4th reenlistment bar, the Second Nicaraguan Campaign medal and was commended for being a member of the Engineering Force of the USS Utah most improved trophy.
